In Peru include: X. p. compressirostris of temperate zone of N Peruvian Andes (Amazonas, Cajamarca, San Martin) - olivaceous coloration, heavy streaking on throat, very fine streaking on crown, back nearly unstreaked and concolor with rump, bill relatively short compared with Amazonian birds
X. p. phaeopygus of temperate zone of Junin - similar to above but diifers by nearly lack of crown streaking - and
X. p. lineatocephalus subtropical and temperate zone of Cusco and Puno ranging into Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz) - similar to both above, but more rufous in general, rump chestnut, darker crown distinctly streaked.
