Olivar de San Isidro in
  Date: August 27, 2004

Par Signs with illustrations and descriptions of birds found in the San Isidro olive grove park have been installed by the Municipalidad de San Isidro. The Olivar de San Isidro is one of the most traditional parks in the city of Lima, with olives were planted more than 400 years ago. The Municipalidad organizes guided birding tours for school children.

The project also included the design of a brochure with photos and descriptions of the most common interesting birds that live in the park that is provided to visitors. Visitors with a need for additional information can visit www.avesdelima.com a website that provides photos and information in spanish on bird species in Lima and surroundings areas, aimed also at the starting and amateur Lima birder.

Juan Pedro Paz-Soldán, a local amateur birder conceived these innitiatives to promote birding awareness in Lima, especially among peruvian kids. Awareness and interest in birding in Lima is still low and it is hoped these efforts will increase interest in birds and in habitat conservation. Increasing public support in Lima for birding issues is critical for the conservation of birding habitats in Peru. Juan Pedro can be contacted through the avesdelima website.
