Red-gartered Coot still
  Date: November 4, 2005

Went to Pantanos de Villa today and the Red-gartered Coot (first for Peru) is still there ? and it was attending three blackish furball chicks with orange on the chest (could only be a few days old). An Andean Coot (with rufous-brown frontal shield, yellow on the base of upper mandible, tip pale horn color and under mandible completely horned colored)  was also attending the nestlings why I have to expect that they are results of hybridization between Andean and Red-gartered Coot. Has this ever been documented before?

Also at Pantanos de Villa today:
10-20,000 Franklin?s Gull
Cave Swallow ? around 5
Chimney Swift ? around 10
Stilt Sandpiper 15
Elegant Tern 150
Royal Tern 2

BTW. The entrance to Torre 4 (opposite the Golf course) is now completely sealed. I guess this is a safety measure, but it is sad that one cannot visit this area any more.

One can still look at the lagoon though which today was the scene of the thousands of Franklin Gulls.
