WHERE TO GO BIRDING IN PERU

Back To Map >>

Birding Ticlio and Milloc bog (Lima, Junín).

The Ticlio bog at 4500 m along the Central Highway between Lima and La Oroya is an easily accessible site for the threatened White-bellied Cinclodes and Diademed Sandpiper-plover. Other birds seen here are Rufous-bellied- and Gray-bellied Seedsnipes, Andean Ibis and Puna Snipe. Lower down towards Lima, Condors are often seen.

The Milloc bog, or Marcopomacocha, can be reached either from the Santa Eulalia valley or on a dirt track going north just below the Ticlio bog. It holds the same birds as Ticlio. Olivaceous Thornbill and Junin Canastero can also be seen around here. Coming from Santa Eulalia you pass a polylepis forest which has White-cheeked Cotinga and Giant Conebill.
