Pucusana is 57 kms south of Lima along the coast and is a good place to see Humboldt Penguins as well as other shorebirds like Inca Tern. Peruvian Seaside Cinclodes are also present here.
Another 20 kms south along the highway takes you to Puerto Viejo. Here are some rather extensive wetlands well worth a look. The roadside lagoons can be viwed from the highway and short side-tracks. Other lagoons closer to the shore can be a bit tricky as you have to pass a guarded gate. If you tell them that you want to birdwatch and leave your passport you can pass and the wetlands are easily scanned from the track. Birds here includes Great Grebe and a nice selection of wetland birds.
