This is a trekking Mecka. Unfortunately few birders have visited the area, so there are very few reports. However, birding while trekking should be very good. There are many good Polylepis forest patches with the corresponding birds including White-cheeked Cotinga and Ash-breasted Tit-Tyrant. The scenery is breath-taking and there is good infra-structure of trekking guides and porters. The perifery area is protected in community reserves and the central area in a reserved area by the state.
Please insert your observations and new birding sites in the Peru Bird Database . Be carefull to note in what department you are doing the observations, as the Huayhuash is shared between Ancash, Lima and Huanuco.
